Appreciate Groves

Upon arriving at school Friday morning, I greeted many of my acquaintances. I discovered that everything that they were talking about seemed negative in one way or another. I feel that the closer we get to our graduation day the more we may want everything to be perfect, which is nearly impossible. I just wanted to take the time and remind everyone why we should try our best to find the positives in every minute that we get to spend at groves..
We, as students of Birmingham Groves, are very lucky. we have a nice and respectable learning environment and not only that our academic program is above average. We get to express ourselves everyday in more ways than one. We a re also lucky enough to have a staff that take their jobs really serious and our dedicated to making the students and parents feel good about being apart of the groves family, this is very important to have in a school setting and many high schools seem to be lacking the quality.
I'm not saying that because we have a good school we should walk around as if we have a perfect life because I'm sure we have other issues. however, maybe we should focus on the good rather than the bad in our lives. If we do this i guarantee we will have better days.

Guns

We Americans love guns, including me. They're pretty fun to shoot, but I think they should be limited. I don't think there any reason why there needs to be guns with a mag over 30 rounds or fully automatic settings. You use those guns for hunting people not deer. Really all you need for deer hunting is a .308 rifle or a shotgun. Not military grade assault rifles. I also think it's way to easy to get a gun. There needs to be universal background checks, and the gun show loophole is just stupid.

Gun Violence

Gun violence is the most talked about topic in America.

Will there always be Gun violence in America. I don't believe it will. I think gun violence comes from people who think its okay to solve there problems with guns instead of thinking out rational responses. If we as people want to stop us from killing each other then we need to have  a stronger system for gun control. There would be less people dying from guns if we stop thinking that guns solves everything because in reality it solves nothing it only cause more people to use guns. There is also those of us who may be mentally ill and decide to use guns  and start mass shootings in schools.
I think that the world would be better if we didn't have guns.I understand that the military and ect. needs them to fight wars. Gun violence can only happen if we let it happen.

Fast Food

I hate and love fast food at the same time. I hate it because I feel like crap after I eat it, but I love it because I've grown up with it. For me fast food kinda has that nostalgia factor. It reminds me of the good old days when I was like 7 and getting all hyped for Star wars Episode III. It reminds me of a time with less problems. It also makes me think that this is why so much of America is fat, and I feel like crap after, but for those 10 minutes of Whopper it feels pretty good. It's pretty addicting honestly. Not that disgrace of a burger the Black Halloween Whopper though. That thing is a monster.

Without Advertising there would be no Brands. There would be no Nike or Coca-Cola or anything, and I think the world would be really boring without these. I think a lot of our culture as Americans comes from advertising, almost as if advertising is modern day art. I also think it can go to far. For example in the movie, the company was thinking about making song books, or making song an adjective. Besides the fact that those make me not want to fly on the plane, I think that's a bit to far. (This is in response to Daijonay's blog on advertising because you can't hyperlink comments.)

Advertising

Advertising is something that happens everyday. You may not know it but you are advertising when you wear the designers clothes and shoes. You also advertise with the kind of food you eat. Advertising is a big deal in the economy today. There are lots of advertising in movies , commercials, TV shows, and billboards.when you really think about what does advertising really mean.this a commercial ad about Pepsi.I wonder what the economy would be like if nobody advertised anything would  people be as successful as they are without the world advertising there product.

Detroit State of Mind

Despite the many unfortunate aspect of the motor city, I know a particular place the uplifts the city. They have great faith when it comes to the improvement and uplifting of the city. That place is Detroit Academy of Arts and Sciences . This school not only educates young kids from all areas of Detroit but they allow many electives and sport to give students the opportunity to show there talents and express themselves through their work. I attended this school from kindergarten all the way 6th grade. I took many creative and performing arts cases, such as art, music , piano, choir, and dance. Anyway, my point in writing this blog is to acknowledge a positive aspect of the city that seems to make Detroit citizens fairly happy is the success and potential stored within this school. over the past year the DAAS choir has had many accomplishments. one of those accomplishments were  that the choir got a chance to perform disney world last year. Since my little cousin was a part of this i got me and my brothers got the chance go and watch her perform. Last year, Ellen DeGeneres surprised them with  a Skype call and actually paid for them to perform at disney world. She also featured then in her season 12 promo. the last but not least thing that makes me so proud of DAAS is the Detroit State Of mind video. This was made a year after I left was extremely happy to see my former choir members do something so huge.

Mean Girls:Insulting Lie? or Exaggerated Truth?

Many people find mean girls a fairly comical movie, which i have to agree with. But , what if the content of that movie were a reality. What if girls did refer to each other as sluts and whores? What if girls feed of of the unhappiness of other girls? What if girls really cheated on there boyfriends or slept with there best friend's boyfriend? What if girls secretly envied each other? What if girl's began to think about drama, boys and gossip more than there own education and future? The sad part about it is that these type of things often happen in high school. Not very funny, huh? In fact it's kind of scary. I think it's safe to say that mean girls is a fairly comical film, but the basis of the joke is in fact a horror story.

Detroit Schooling

Detroit's school system is beyond broken. Being a person who has experienced Detroit public and charter schools, as well as a suburban school district such as BPS, I know that Detroit schools in general are way beyond behind suburban schools. I know that some Detroit charter schools have better academic program , than those of Detroit public schools. I remember going from a charter school, Detroit academy of arts and sciences to McDowell Middle School . Upon my transition of schools I found myself learning what nouns, verbs,  adjectives, and prepositions were in the 7th grade. When I had learned this 2 years ago at my last school. Although sad, thats not the worst part about it. The one thing that made me realize that DPS and Detroit charter are lacking major factors needed to give a child a healthy education was coming to a suburban school. suburban schools all over Michigan and I'm pretty sure the country are excelling over Detroit. Meaning that the students in Detroit are being prepared to fail. CAN YOU IMAGINE GOING TO COLLEGE WITH OUT THE BASIC FOUNDATIONS THAT YOUR PEERS POSSESS?

Always Remember.....

there's a quote/saying/prayer (whatever you prefer to call it) that says. "grant me the serenity to accept the things i can not change, the courage to change the things i can, and the wisdom to know the difference." Everything that we have been talking about in class constantly reminds me of this saying. It is extremely important to do what you can to make a positive impact or change for better when you can. However, the most important thing in life is not being accepted by everyone, because in all actuality there will never be a time where everyone will except you. In my opinion we should focus on what makes us happy.

Racism

What don't we know or understand about racism? what do we wish to know about racism? What do we know that a lot of people don't?

Their isn't to many thing that I don't know about racism. then again, if I don't know them how will I know they exist. so, I'm going to just start of by stating thing i do know that a lot of people may not know.

  • Racism DOES still exist. (obviously)
  • Racism is bigger than just Black vs. White
  • It's possible to be Racist, even if you are "friends" with a person from another race.
  • Their is a difference between being stereotypical and being racist.
Right now this is all I can think of, but I will post as they come to me.

The Difference between Men and Women

There is a big difference between Men and Women. First is they way we think men tend not to care about stuff to much so don't really take the time and think about stuff like us women do we tend to overthink. when it comes to responsibility women are more in control . In relationships most would think that the men would make most of the decisions but in reality all men know that women make the hard decisions.Women and men have different ways of communicating. Men and Women brains work in two different ways.

Lisa's point

What was Lisa's main point? Do i agree?

Lisa's delivered a very important message through this particular Simpsons episode. The message, or what i from it, was that young girls often grow up under the wrong influence. At a young age we have barbie dolls that we idolize. although it is impossible to look like these barbie dolls, we still want to look like them. we want their hair, body, and face when that is less than likely to happen. not only are we idolizing barbie dolls we idolize TV personals who may fall under the stereotype of women. we grow up wanting to be someones wife and mother before we even learn how to multiply. not that there is anything wrong with being a wife and mother, but i feel like young girls should want to serve a bigger purpose.
The Donald:

Donald Trump has been getting a lot of talk in the Media, and as of now he has a 0% approval rating on our blog (out of 5 votes). I think he's a pretty bad candidate, but has some good ideas. He is pro-choice. He says he wants to raise taxes on the wealthy. He also supports a single payer health insurance plan. Then he says stuff like he wants to build the border wall, and he'll deport all of the Syrian migrants if he gets elected. He also released his tax plan and he definitely does not want to tax rich people. I think he's really close to falling off in the polls. I think the republican nominee is going to be Jeb Bush or Marco Rubio. Donald is almost guaranteed to fall off and so are Ben Carson and Carly Fiorina, I think.

Gender

What is gender? Gender  is the range of characteristics pertaining to, and differentiating between, masculinity and femininity. Many people think that because you are male or female you have to do a specific thing that your gender requires of you. Well let me tell you now that we are in the 20th century things are different . Girls play boy sports and likes to play video games. Most boys don't mind a little girly things. We see young boys today wearing lots of pink clothing and wear girly backpacks. We may still have a little bias between the two but we are getting better.

Last Year As A Falcon

As I turn off my alarm I think of what my day holds. I think to myself "this is it. my last first day of high school, My last year as a falcon ". I think of how far me and my peers have come; How we have all grown and learned in these past 13 years; and how many minor and major accomplishments we have made. I think of how we must cherish this last year of high school.   I smile at the thought of our graduation, the smiles of our parents, and the "congratulations" from our administrators, and that amazing feeling we get when we realize we have completed the first chapter of our lives.  Friday night football games will be a thing of the past and we will no longer be able to battle for the bucket during spirit week. Although graduating from high school is a happy and celebratory time, I can't help but loathe the thought of no longer walking these halls.

Fahrenheit 9/11 Response

I think that the Movie is pretty accurate. I think the Bush administration was extremely negligent and they probably could've prevented 9/11 from happening. I also think that going invading Iraq at that point in time was an unnecessary war. I think Bush took to much time off, even if he was doing work as Christopher Hitchens says he was. I do think, however, that Moore was looking a bit to deep into it. I don't think that while Bush sat there he was thinking about The Bin Ladens, and his Oil Company, and all the other stuff Moore claims he might have been thinking about. I do see those connections, however I don't think there's some conspiracy about Bush and the Bin Ladens.
